Readathon
The Gleddings children took part in Readathon between 6th - 27th February.
Readathon is a national sponsored reading event that takes place annually in schools throughout the country. All the money raised is donated equally between CLIC Sargent and The Roald Dahl Foundation. The money is spent locally, caring for children and young people suffering from cancer, Hodgkin’s disease, leukaemia, epilepsy, blood disorders or acquired brain injury.
During the three week period of the sponsored event, pupils tried to read as many books as possible. Readathon created a real buzz around school and we were all delighted at the enthusiasm for reading the children showed.
On the final day of the Readathon, all the pupils and staff had fun dressing as favourite book or story characters and the children enjoyed visiting a ‘Book Swap’ stall, run by Year 6 pupils. Lots of fun activities took place during the day, and some lucky children discovered golden tickets at lunchtime, which they were able to swap for prizes.
The teachers had to make some very difficult decisions in order to award prizes for the best costumes and the class champion readers.
Sponsor money is still arriving in school, but the total raised for the two charities is in excess of £2400.
A HUGE thank you to all those who generously sponsored Readathon and to those who helped to encourage their children to discover the enjoyment of reading for pleasure. Many thanks, too, to the very many parents who spent a lot of time helping their children to create the fabulous costumes they were wearing on Wednesday.
