Amber the Eagle Owl

The Indian Eagle Owl

They are found in India, as far north as the Himalayas. They grow to a height of between 50cm and 56cms and weigh between 1100g and 1200g.They live in rocky hills, ravines and scrubland.
They eat mainly rats, mice and small birds.
They will also eat reptiles, frogs, crabs and large insects.

This is Amber the owl. She is an Indian Eagle owl and has been born and bred in captivity.
She lives in the grounds of Nidd Hall Hotel, near to Harrogate.
She was born on April 2nd 2007

 

 

These are owl pellets containing the parts of the owl’s food which it couldn’t digest.

We soaked the pellets in warm water.

We separated out the contents of the pellets.

We spread the separated pellets out onto a paper towel to dry.We picked the bones out.

These bones and pieces of fur are what we found in the pellets.
