Our twinned school
Mrs Berry writes:
The Gleddings has been twinned since 2004 with a primary school in France, L’ Ecole Sacre-Coeur in Meyzieu, on the outskirts of Lyon.
Many, many years ago, when I was still a teenager at university, I spent a year working as an English language assistant in a secondary school in Lyon. Lyon is a very big city, and it was rather daunting to be sent there alone. However, I hadn’t been there very long when a little girl, aged ten, who must have been one of the youngest children in the school, came to me at the end of a lesson and said that her mother (whom I had never met) would like me to join her family for a meal. I have never forgotten that act of kindness, and I have kept in touch with that French family for three decades now.
The kind little girl grew up to be a primary school teacher, and that is how we come to be twinned with L’Ecole Sacre-Coeur, the school where she teaches. So, now you have the opportunity to make friends with children in another country. It just goes to show that you never know where a little act of kindness will lead!
You can find L’Ecole Sacre-Coeur on their website, www.ecole-meyzieu.com.
