Our children by our children

Anglo Saxons

The Anglo-Saxons lived in primitive ‘wattle and daub’ houses which were built from wood and mud from the forests near their villages. The houses did not have windows but they did have ’smoke holes’ which allowed the smoke from the open fire to pass out of the houses. The ordinary people lived in small houses, whereas the thane lived in the great hall. Strong fences were built around the villages to keep out wild animals and enemy tribes, keeping their own animals and people safe.

Form III have made a village from paper and card as part of their history work on Anglo-Saxons. It has helped the children to gain an insight into life at the time and to provide a backdrop for the story of Beowolf which they have been working on in Literacy lessons.
