My Money Week in FI

For My Money Week we have collected ‘funny money’ so that we can make sure that we learn as much as we can about the different kinds of coins that make up our currency. Here we are using the coins to create our own pictogram. We have to think and work it out for ourselves by looking carefully at the coins and working out the value of each one.

Mrs Cowell visits FI

After the visit of children’s author, Tom Palmer, we invited Mrs Cowell into Form I to talk to the children about editing books. She is showing the children photographs of her own children in a book she has worked on.

“Maybe I will be an editor, one day.”

“Oh, there are a lot of words here to read through. This is going to take me a long time.”

Musical talent

This talented little boy played for the first time in Celebration assembly. He was very excited and note perfect. What a brilliant performance!

Form I work together

These children are working together to create their favourite piece of playground equipment.

Chinese New Year in FI

The Year of the Tiger is welcomed with a glittering array of festivities. Form I children listened to our visitor, Mrs Loh, talk about the traditions of Chinese New Year.

Look at our Lion Dance. We dressed up as a Chinese lion to dance and parade around with loud music. This little boy drove the lion crazy with his fan. Traditionally he is known as ‘The Fan Man’ and it is his job to annoy the lion.

This little boy did a very good job!

As part of the celebration we tasted prawn crackers and made our own hats.

 Yummy!

Form I Literacy

As part of our literacy work we have read stories about fairies and dragons. We dramatised the stories we read and wrote our own stories. Then we made our own dragon puppets. We also read our stories out to the class. Our teacher was very pleased with our work! Do you like our puppets?

KS1 Nativity

When Angel Gabriel told Mary she was going to have a baby, Mary decided she would knit a blanket for the baby.

Joseph had to ask Sidney the shepherd for some ‘nice soft wool’ and Sidney called for his five best sheep.

Joseph spun the wool into lovely long threads, so Mary could knit her blanket for the baby.

The shepherds, kings and the star all helped Mary and Joseph on their way.

We all enjoyed performing for our families and wanted to do it again!

‘Phew!’

These two children worked very hard narrating throughout our performance of ‘Mary’s Knitting’

Form I in the thinking room

This little boy had to THINK! before he rolled the ball to knock over all the skittles.

The Balancing Cat is not as easy as it looks! Patience and fine motor skills are needed to balance all the shapes onto the body of the cat.

These two little girls ordered the ribbons on the line from shortest, to longest. If only ‘washing’ was as easy!

Form I dictionary work

Children worked together to find the definitions of words, using dictionaries.

We learnt that sometimes words had the same beginning and we had to look at the second or third letter to put a list of words into alphabetical order.

By working collaboratively, we helped each other to read unknown words.

Science in Form I

As part of our science topic, ‘Ourselves’ Form I has learnt about living and non-living things. Here the children are working collaboratively to sort the objects into the correct categories.
