ICT in Music

This week saw the children of Upper IV working in their music lesson with the Fizzbooks and sequencing  software (Sony Acid Xpress).  This was the first time the children had used the software but they were able to produce some very creative compositions!

Form II in ICT

While working through Unit 2B ‘ Creating pictures; the children in Form II have been using the various tools within Microsoft Paint.

They started by creating patterns using the various brush types and sizes.

They then used the various brushes to create a computer image of the puppet they are making in D.T.

Some children also managed to create a Christmas picture.

Finally, they experimented with the shape tools, overlapping them and colouring in the segments to produce colourful designs.

MIV in ICT

Children in Middle IV have been concentrating hard in ICT.

They have just finished working through unit 5A, ‘Graphical Modelling’ where they manipulated shapes in order to produce pictures, recreate The Snail by Henry Matisse and create a plan of their classroom.

National School Quiz

On Friday 12th March at 11am some of our pupils took part in the  Next Generation Learning National School Quiz, launched by BECTA. They were very excited as the countdown from 60 seconds began. The children were tested on their curriculum and general knowledge and played games that also tested both their memory and thinking skills.

At the end of the quiz the children were able to leave feedback and print their certificates. 12 children, aged 8 and 9 took part and together earned 10 silver and 2 gold awards!

The quiz will be opened up to the public shortly and as soon as I receive that information I will post an update, so please check back regularly.

Form II accept the challenge!

Form II have been using the new ‘Play Live’ numeracy feature on Education City’s website to compete against each other and children from other schools in the UK.

The children got very excited and competitive and thoroughly enjoyed the experience!

Form III make music

Form III has really enjoyed this half-term’s unit of work, Unit 3B – Manipulating Sound. They chose from many available instruments and sounds to create musical compositions to portray many different feelings.

Tesco voucher update

I would like to say a BIG thank you to all parents for sending their Tesco vouchers into school.

The scheme, which is now in its 18th year, allows schools to receive valuable resources in exchange for these vouchers. This year the catalogue has been expanded to include items for sports and clubs in addition to computer equipment.

After many, many hours/days counting them all I can now confirm this year’s grand total is 11,145.

This enables us to obtain the following equipment:

  • USB Microscope for Science
  • 10 MP Digital camera
  • 4GB camera card
  • USB multi card reader
  • Battery charger and batteries
  • Stirrup pump for P.E

Thank you all once again for making this possible.

Form III History

Form III have just finished their topic on the Anglo Saxons and they are now learning all about the Vikings.

They have been using the Internet in ICT to search various websites for information on their history topics.

Below are two documents created using some of the information they collected.

Form II

Form II have been following set instructions to navigate within the 2Simple 2Go program. Firstly they had to direct a ladybird to each of the flowers in order using specific coloured pens. Then they directed a car around the track leaving a trail with the yellow pen.
