ICT in Music

This week saw the children of Upper IV working in their music lesson with the Fizzbooks and sequencing  software (Sony Acid Xpress).  This was the first time the children had used the software but they were able to produce some very creative compositions!

Young Musicians from Beijing Gave a Special Performance in Halifax

The Gleddings School hosted a special performance given by the young musicians of The Experimental Primary School of Beijing Normal University. The free performance was held at Square Chapel Centre for the Arts on 10th November. Children from local schools were invited to attend this performance of high quality along with the children from The Gleddings.

There are 25 children in the group and they have been preparing their debut UK repertoire for some time. This is their first trip to the UK, though they have been playing to audiences in China and overseas (e.g. USA, Japan, Singapore etc) for many years.

The performance began with rousing marching music from the wind ensemble. They delighted the audience and set the mood for the rest of the hour. The performance continued with a programme of traditional Chinese music and Western music on various instruments such as trumpet, saxophone and piano as well as Tai Chi performance and diabolo (Chinese yo-yo) performance.

The audience had a wonderful afternoon as the venue was filled with deafening applause for these talented children from Beijing.

Here are some photographs which show just how wonderful the performance was!

The Gleddings In Concert

Our annual Spring Term Concert moved venue this year to the Square Chapel in Halifax.

The concert opened with our MIV Samba Band. Throughout the year, all upper school children have taken part in Samba workshops with our percussion specialist.

Other groups performing during the evening included: String Ensemble, Flute Ensemble, Guitar Group and Rock Band.

A number of children played solo on brass, string and percussion instruments, as well as on the piano.

We were also entertained by some superb vocalists.

The concert concluded with our Family Choir singing the beautiful ‘Halleluia’ and our fabulous Gleddings Brass Band playing what has become one of our favourites, ‘A Swingin Safari’.

Due to upload limitations I have had to split the concert into 5 parts. Please click on the links below to view it.

Brass Evening

Mr Wood and his pupils performed for their families in a superb concert this week. Whilst some of the children had a few nervous moments, Mr Wood had no trouble ‘blowing his own cornet!’

This little girl played her ABRSM Grade One violin examination piece ‘Toddle-Pip’.  This up-tempo piece requires her to produce different sound effects by plucking her strings (pizzicato) and playing with her bow.

She also played the short piano piece ‘Get Away‘  in different octaves to create different atmospheres.

Musical talent

This talented little boy played for the first time in Celebration assembly. He was very excited and note perfect. What a brilliant performance!

2010 Spring Term Music Evenings

We had to hold our annual Spring Term Music Concert over two evenings this year due to the sheer number of excellent musicians and singers.  All the performers enjoyed performing for their families and they all did a fantastic job!
