Football news!
On Saturday 5th March, some of our MIV and UIV players took part in a 5 a-side tournament at Ryburn Valley High School.
There was a very high standard of play and our team played some excellent football. We won three matches , drew one match and lost one. We therefore went through to the semi-finals where we beat Ripponden 4-0.
In the finals we lost to Heathfield and therefore came runners-up of the Sowerby Bridge schools’ tournament.
Congratulations to the following boys as they gave 100% throughout the whole morning: Matthew Gledhill, Matthew Priestley, Samuel Greenwood, Jacob Orley, Peter Standfast and James Cooper.
Netball Match v Sacred Heart
Also on Tuesday 1st February UIV and MIV netball teams played a match against Sacred Heart. Both teams had to produce some strong defence work as Sacred Heart proved to be very quick around the court. Unfortunately, we lost both matches but all children worked hard and came off court exhausted!
Better luck next time!
Football Match v Heathfield
On Tuesday 1st February UIV football team played a match against Heathfield. All boys played with confidence and determination and won by 2 -0.
Well done to all players. Keep up the good work!
Our mixed team of Form 11/111/LIV also played a very good football match. We have some very determined younger players who never give in! We drew this match 3-3.
Congratulations to all players.
Cookery November 10
The children made sultana, and Wensleydale and spring onion scones this week.
Rubbing in the butter.
Making the scones.
Delicious.
Cookery had a Mexican flavour this week as we made fajitas. We used red onions, peppers and quorn pieces along with fajita spice mix to make our filling. We made our own salsa by sautéing onions, tomatoes and chilli. Flour tortillas and soured cream completed our meal.
Sadly the parents missed out this week as the children ate their fajitas during cookery club. Some children did say that this would be a quick meal they could prepare for their families…promises, promises!
Slicing the onions and peppers.
Mmmm – looks good!
Tastes good too!
Cross Country Competition
On Tuesday 16th November fifteen Gleddings children took part in The Sowerby Bridge Schools’ Cross Country Competition. The weather was kind to us and we had a wonderful morning of sport.
Form III and LIV children had to run 850 metres, with Ella Gill, Ursula Depledge – Miller, Max Slater, Dominic Hawes, Millie Wadsworth, Ellie Reed and Oliver Kenyon doing some fantastic running.
MIV and UIV children had to run 1700 metres on a tough course, but the following children did not let us down: James Cooper, Charlie Nendick, Marisa Turner, Ruby O’ Hare, Mia Ackroyd, Millie Wilde, Peter Standfast and Samuel Greenwood.
Congratulations to all runners.
Football & Netball matches
On Tuesday 16th November the U9 football team and U10 & U11 netball team played against Hipperholme Preparatory School.
The U11 Netball team played a fantastic game winning 8-1, showing some excellent attacking skills.
The light was fading fast by the time the U10 team played. However, they put up a strong effort against Hipperholme’s U11s, the result ending 2-4 to Hipperholme. Once again there was some very promising play by all team members.
The U9 football proved to be a very exciting match, with our team playing a strong first half, but unfortunately losing 3-4 overall! All players showed good skill and excellent determination.
Congratulations to all involved!!
Cookery club
To celebrate the opening of our new Confucius classroom we made spring rolls.
We added fresh ginger, garlic and Chinese five spice seasoning to a selection of vegetables which had been stir-fried and allowed to cool.
Assembling the spring rolls.
We baked our spring rolls in the oven rather than deep frying them – much healthier!
The finished result.
Cookery club October 2010
Cookery club has been very busy this term. We started with an apple and blackberry crumble served with custard, using apples picked from our fruit trees.

Making the tzatsiki.
The finished result.
The children enjoyed making a plaited cheese and spinach loaf.
Kneading the dough.
Plaiting the loaf.
Ready for the oven.
A finished loaf.
Rolling and decorating.
Baked and ready to be eaten!
We ended by making a spicy Mexican soup – perfect to have before watching those fireworks.
