Sports and Awards Afternoon 2017

All classes took part in our Sports Day and Prizegiving for 2017 on Tuesday. Children and staff demonstrated the whole school dance before Mrs McHugh’s well-oiled organisational machine  saw the children participate in many different races before their relatives had a chance to compete in their own events.

Once all the races were over, prizes were awarded to all the children soon to be leaving us in Upper IV, as well as other achievement-based prizes for the other classes.

The children’s families then joined them on the sports pitch to show how well they had been watching the dance earlier in the afternoon before enjoying a delicious afternoon tea from Chef Lizzie’s team.

More photographs from the afternoon can be seen here.

WOW Health Day

On Tuesday we were joined by Calderdale’s Better Living Team, who ran class-based workshops with the children covering topics such as :

  • How should I start my day?
  • What’s in my food?
  • What does wellbeing mean?
  • Why does sleep matter?
  • How much energy do I need in a day?
  • Why do we eat fruit and vegetables?

They also got everyone moving with chair-based exercises, parachute games, dance, yoga  and Zumba.  Mrs Wilde led sessions with the children where they tried to create the healthiest sandwich possible, and Mrs McHugh organised sponsored runs in aid of the NSPCC.  We all learned lots of things about how we can live more healthily, and at the end of the day came back together in the hall to present our findings (and have one last dance!)

More pictures from the day can be found here.

Chinese Dance

On Monday, 14th November, children from MIV had the opportunity to learn different styles of Chinese dance as part of their dance unit in their P.E. lesson.

Miss Yajie Li from the Manchester Confucius Institute showed the children some basic steps and movements from the Xinjiang Province. Then, the children learned some handy tricks for the Hàn(汉) Chinese Scarves dance. Finally, they took part in the elegant Dăi(傣)Tribe Peacock dance.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our runners who took part in the Sowerby Bridge schools competition.  We had some fantastic results with all children participating with resilience.
