This year is the Year of the Dragon.

The children have been greeting each other by saying, “Gōng xí fā cái,” (恭喜发财 – which means congratulations and prosperity) and “Xīn nián kuài lè” (新年快乐 – which means Happy New Year).

They have also been writing auspicious New Year messages on red coloured cards. The colour red is chosen as it is a lucky colour for Chinese people.

The children have also been learning how to write their own playscripts based on poems and fairy stories.

Rois’. In this Epiphany festival, traditionally celebrated in France on January 6th, families share a cake in which is hidden a bean or a feve (a porcelain charm). The person who finds the bean or charm in their slice of cake becomes king (le roi) for the day, and is able to issue orders.  Middle IV crowned a queen!
