On Friday 4th October UIV visited Catalyst Science Discovery Centre in Widnes. Pupils got an introduction to some surprising chemical reactions. They then used their investigative skills to have a go themselves at mixing some ‘potions’ and seeing how their potions behaved. Colours of the solutions changed and the temperatures went up and down during the reactions.
After lunch we learned about the properties and applications of some interesting and novel materials including plastics known as thermoplastics. CAPA ,a biodegradable thermoplastic was melted and moulded by pupils to make a key ring to bring back home.
