School Council Trip to the Houses of Parliament

School Council and School Prefects had a wonderful day visiting the Houses of Parliament. The children were able to learn more about our democracy and to better understand the work that our elected representatives carry out.

We visited the public galleries of The House of Commons and The House of Lords to observe the MPs and Lords at work and we learnt about the history of Westminster.

The children took part in a fun and interactive workshop where they considered what mattered to them most. They had an opportunity to create their own manifesto and took part in a mock General Election to learn how Government is formed.

The children thoroughly enjoyed the day and it has hopefully helped them to understand the importance of democracy and how they can get their voices heard. The challenge now will be to see how they can bring democracy alive in their roles in order to celebrate and promote democracy.
